D2MG Student Showcase at Looze Control, 2008

Posted on 29 March 2010 by Trina

This must be one of my favourite performances, when it comes to student showcases. Everyone worked so hard for week training in class, on the street, at home, at uni, at work, wherever they could. They were listening to the mix over and over again, trying to remember what comes when, what transitions come up next and what position they’re in. I was so proud of everyone that night, it was so much fun and it brought us teachers and students a lot closer.

The first and second routines are Pauler’s Intermediate Hip Hop class, starting with a slow, seductive kinda vibe (oh there were so many girls screaming when they did those bodyrolls), then a funky, upbeat Neyo track with great transitions and movement, considering there were only 3-4 of them performing! Thomas, Wendy and Ralph did a great job and hopefully Pauler will continue to teach his Hip Hop classes in the near future (as I write this, Feb 1, 2010, he has only been bboying for months now, maybe even a year).

Then I strut in to my name being called on the track “Mz Trina” and we get into a cute and sexy little waacking piece choregraphed by Leo for the first half, and mine for the second when the chorus kicks in. I placed myself next to the tallest guy in the class if not the world, I thought it would be funny and he should be at the front for one of the formations, he’s usually at the back poor guy! Well he’ll be seen no matter what!

Next was the funky piece from Eriko which was a taste of soul punking – which I don’t think most of the audience has seen before! Rod’s upbeat House piece was also a fun routine with lots of floor movement and smooth footwork. This was back when Seymour was dancing still.

The finale was choreographed by Eriko and everyone except Pauler and I took place, I can’t remember why. Which explains why we came in and out at the side at various points. I love, LOVE this last piece because it’s such a great ending song and it brings everyone together, in unison, like one big happy family that formed just over the past few months, all for that moment, that performance. I can’t wait to do lots more in the future!!!

Bboy Blond – Extreme Crew 2010 (Promo)

Posted on 16 March 2010 by Trina

This is a video Luke made as a promo for Bboy Blond’s workshop at D2MG on Sunday 21st March 2010. It was all filmed in a few hours around Darling Harbour with a normal Sony cam with a widescreen lens and edited in Sony Vegas Pro (I know because I was there during most of that process).

D2MG Next Gen Jam VI at Platform 3 Hip Hop Festival, Sat 20 March 2010

Posted on 16 March 2010 by Trina

First of all, let me just say how amazing these Next Gen Jams have been, and to be invited to hold the competition at Carriageworks’ Annual Platform Hip Hop Festival is incredible. I’m such a nut, it’s always just the week before that I start rallying the troops and actually organising and promoting the jam. This one’s no different and what’s even worse is that I thought this was the fifth jam when it fact it’s the sixth. So on all the Platform 3 Hip Hop Festival advertising material its advertised at D2MG Next Generation Jam V. Ah no biggie, we’ll know for the next one.

Sorry i’m blabbing on instead of talking about the details. But I can’t believe it’s achieved one of my goals, which is to make it really big, and be part of Nick Power’s event (he’s the artistic director of Platform and is an all-round Hip Hopper, this guy has so much knowledge and history and does Hip Hop fulltime which is awesome).

Anyways here’s the details:
