Study shows what women want on the dancefloor

So when I saw this article about the study, I thought it sounded interesting and had expectations of detailed dance moves e.g. bboy moves versus a popper’s moves. Boy was I disappointed. They recruited a bunch of random men and told them to dance to random beats, and out of that showed that larger movements were favoured by women as opposed to small, walking types of movements. I was truly having a WTF moment. This also reminded me of conversations I’ll have with my girlfriends around dating standards – as a dancer, we’d usually have certain standards of guys and dance skills are up there. It is quite cute…

Kevin Spacey and Jimmy Fallon do an acapella of Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” and it’s awesome

I love Jimmy Fallon and now I love Kevin Spacey even more so with this dope “barbership quartet” rendition of “Talk Dirty” by Jason Derulo. It’s soooo good. The original track is further below for those who haven’t heard it and can make the comparison. Damn they look and sound so sharp. It’s already received 843,000+ views just 24 hours after being released on YouTube.

[Event Review] SKB WIN R16 Oceania 2014!

And the winner is… SKB!!! SKB took out the crew battles, the senior battle (Bboy Blond) and placed 2nd in Juniors (Bboy Bred). Here is my recap of R16 Oceania 2014, I will keep updating this page with videos and photos as I find them. What I love about R16 R16 is one of those few dance related events or competitions that I’ll go to in Australia, because I know the quality is always gonna be high. Here’s why. 1. You got the best MC possible – MC Mistery (who is also one of the main peeps responsible for putting on this event) is fucking hilarious. All the inside jokes…

Fake Drake asks people what they think about Drake

I’m not a Drake fan and I don’t know what the ESPYs are, but he hosted them then disguised himself as a reporter and asked randoms on the street what they thought of Drake. He’s pretty funny and I always enjoy when celebs are comfortable enough to make fun of themselves. Check him out on this fake segment on Jimmy Kimmel.

Cookies ft. Keone and Mariel Madrid win World of Dance 2014

Now I’ve been watching dance crews compete since 2005 then got over it for the past few years. But this is the first time I’ve seen a show filmed with in a high-def, front row panning view like this and it’s pretty cool. You can feel the energy a lot more than any other angles, and while this only captures about one-tenth of the live energy, it’s a great view. The Cookies Crew featuring my favourite dance duo, Mariel and Keone Madrid, won the prestigious World of Dance competition earlier this year. Congrats to Cookies!!!

[Event] Saturday 3rd May 2014 – R16 Bboy Championships Australia

I only heard about this event two days ago and I’m so glad it’s being held in Australia again. R16 is one of the biggest bboy competitions in the world, with qualifiers across many different countries, leading to the world finals in South Korea. I’m extremely proud of my all-time favourite Aussie bboy crew, SKB (Street Kulture Breakers) being the Australian champions last year, ranking 3rd in the world at the finals in Korea. FREAKING AWESOMESAUCE! Did I mention that Bboy Blond (Top 6, So You Think You Can Dance Australia 2014) is in SKB? Here’s their show for the R16 World Finals 2013: Along with the semi-final battle: So this…

Farewell to Rangi “Rangsta Boogie” Harris, 1969-2013

My friend Rangi Harris loved Hip Hop and he loved sharing it with whomever he could. He was involved in all aspects of the street culture for most of his life and was often found at events, supporting the Aussie Hip Hop scene and catching up with everyone. He would always make time to talk to you and see how you’re doing, genuinely interested and encouraging of your passion. Shoutout to his close friend, Mistery, who arranged an amazing day of tributes complete with new graffiti pieces, T-Shirts, a mixtape by DJ MK-1, a moving ceremony and farewell jam at the Street University in Liverpool. Sad to see him…

How I’m Re-Igniting My Passionate Love Affair with Hip Hop

At almost 28 years old, I feel old. Old in the local street dance scene – and who can blame me, when I find myself surrounded by fresh-faced high school kids whenever I (rarely) decide to attend one of the events. Being in the scene for 8 years now, it gets to a point where it all feels the same, and progress seems backwards. After running countless events, classes, workshops, battle competition and all things related to street dance, I’m in a period where I need to take a step back from the scene, remove all the external bullshit influence and reflect on what brought me on this path in…
